It works like it should. I was looking for a replacement filter but don’t seem to find one. I guess I’ll have to paid a hole new bottle.

I purchased this for a four day hike I am doing soon into the Grand Canyon. Of course I had to test it out as this is a very important tool for any long backwoods hike. Works like a charm. I have two ponds on my property in Kentucky. Filtered water on a couple of occasions….worked great!

While looking to buy replacement filters for my Grayl , I stumbled upon the Bachgold water filter due to its good reviews and decided to purchase it right away. I used it over the weekend and I am truly impressed. The functionality is similar to the Grayl, but the Bachgold filter uses a different filtration method. The Bachgold filter relies on a hollow fiber membrane, which makes a lot of sense. This filtration method is also used in well-known filters from Lifestraw, Katadyn, and Sawyer, which have been proven effective for years.

In addition, the Bachgold filter also contains activated carbon, which is known to reduce heavy metals, chemicals, and viruses. With the Grayl, I often had to replace the filter after a long weekend, and the replacement filters are not cheap. The Bachgold filter element is supposed to last at least 1500 liters, if not longer. The Grayl costs almost twice as much and requires more frequent filter replacements. In my opinion, the Bachgold is not only better in terms of price, but also in size, weight, and durability, making it more convenient to use. I definitely recommend purchasing it!

I have ordered one single cap and one cap with two filters that was declare on website ( one cap and two filters) The order came , it was two caps and ONE filter. I checked quality of tab water and TDS shows 095 . I checked tab water without filter and it was 075 same quality as Castro water filter ; Zero water display 000 . Does someone else check quality of water by TDS?
KI wanted to change my preview rating from 2 till 4 The company sent additional filters .

Simple to use, that’s all I can say. I’ve never had the water tested after. I’ve filtered it so I bought it. Because according to the picture, there were 2 filters that came with it. But that’s not right, only one filter comes with the cup.

This works the same way as the Grayl, slowly press the inner container into the outer shell and filter your water. drink out of the flip-top opening. First reason I chose this one, is it’s cheaper, which is an easy choice if it works as well as the Grayl. Second reason, it has a smoother profile (soft carrying handle), making it easier to pack away. So, after three weeks tripping thru Italy (Cinque Terre is worth the trip), I find this works as expected. As well as Grayl? Close enough I suppose. The only problem I found was a seal problem around the inner sleeve, it has a tendency to suddenly let water pass around it creating a bit of a mess. The size is right for me, bigger becomes hard to transport.

I used this for a 4 day camping trip, and this thing became our critical tool for water. I used this to make GALLONS of fresh water for cooking and drinking. Simple, easy to use, and quick for purifying your water. I drank out of a flowing creek for a couple days with zero issues, and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again with this. I’m very impressed!

I’ve edited this review on June 27th.

Turns out, I did not take the time to figure out if this product would be useful for my purposes. My previous low rating was based on my own misunderstanding. We were traveling to Mexico, and I wanted to take a portable small filter system to make tap water more healthy/potable. The Bachgold is not designed for this purpose but rather makes not-tap water sources potable. I suggested to them that this may be an uptapped market, as I didn’t find any water filter systems that would be designed for this purpose (make international tap water potable)*. I reached out to the company directly – and as their customer service was thorough, kind and informative, I’ve changed the rating from 3 to 5 stars. I’m sure this product would work well for those in the wilderness.

Here is the direct quote from them explaining the difference in microns:

“I would like to provide you with an update regarding our investigation into the reported issue of the inadequate filtering performance of our water filter, as brought to our attention by you.

After receiving your message about your water meter, which was included with the ZeroWater pitcher, measuring an increased micron value after filtering, we have looked into the matter further. Such deterioration is a serious concern for us and is contradictory to the test results we have.

Our research has revealed that the water meter you used measures the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) value in water. This value indicates the total amount of dissolved solids in water but does not indicate whether the substances dissolved in the water are hazardous to health. Total Dissolved Solids are not linked to adverse health effects. In fact, the main components of TDS are minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, etc. Higher TDS readings often indicate higher levels of trace minerals in the water, which are actually desirable. On the other hand, it is important to clarify that a higher TDS level does not necessarily imply better water quality.

Several reasons can contribute to an elevated TDS value. However, it is crucial to understand that tap water already meets drinking water quality standards. As a result, one should not expect an improvement in the quality of tap water through the use of our water filter. In fact, due to the reasons explained below, the TDS value may be negatively affected.

We are confident that the increased TDS value can be attributed to our activated carbon filter. The carbon fines, which are microscopic particles not visible to the naked eye, can become attached to the water as it passes through the filter element. Consequently, the presence of these carbon fines can lead to an increase in the TDS reading as the water passes through the carbon filter. Furthermore, it is also possible that dust and minuscule particles may have settled in the bottle, which can further contribute to an elevated TDS value in the filtered water.”

    Original post:

I tried posting this in Q + A but there was an error. We tested the filter with our micron measurer (from Zero water). Each time the micron units INCREASED after filtering. I tried multiple times. Is there an initial curing process for the filter?

*I did end up purchasing a Waterdrop Gravity system as it could be made quite small for a suitcase. However, the water provided by the places we stayed was potable, so I didn’t get to use it.

    Hope my learning-curve helps others!
