When I got the parts out of the box it looked like it would be more adjustable that it actually is. It was fairly easy to mount to the bike but once I did the seat was tilting slightly forward when it should be level or tilting slightly reclined. I tried adjusting the mounts in various ways and ultimately was able to get the seat level. I have a 2 year old and she was able to easily get out of the 3 point buckles that come with the seat. I switched them out for some 5 point high chair buckles that I had on hand. The safety bar also comes off easily. My toddler pulls it off while we’re riding, waves it around, drops it and says “uh-oh” 🙄 Then we have to go retrieve it lol. I haven’t come up with a solution to keep the bar in place yet. So this seat is fine, I bought it “like new” for like 60% off compared to a brand new one. But it has required some of my own creative adjustments to keep the dang wiggly toddler in it.

This seat is above what I expected, and the default product description just doesn’t do it justice. I had previously tried a child seat from Bell, which required attaching to the seat post clamp with a bolt that was too large to fit. There was no adapter, so I had to return it. Everything was in pieces and it took me an hour to put it together and then take it back apart.

This one was the complete opposite and so much better! Here are the features, and many of which aren’t listed in the product description:

    – There are two main parts: the plastic seat and a steel rack, which you’ll need to attach to your bike. Each comes pre-assembled!

    – The seat has a foam back-reset and a air-cushion seat padding, y-straps for the shoulders, and ankle straps. My 21 mo daughter was able to pull her feet out when she really wanted to, but they do keep her feet in most of the time. There’s also the horizontal bar that swings up when you need to get your child in/out. The blue foot stirrups also adjust up/down. This was all together out of the box and adjusting does not need tools.

    – The steel rack attaches to your bike in three places: around each seat stay and around your seat post. You will need either a 10 mm wrench or a crescent wrench to tighten the nuts. These are also pre-assembled!

    – The seat attaches to the rack by sliding it on from the back. You then fold down a clamp and screw into place with a hand-tighten child-proof screw cap. It’s the big orange cap between the child’s legs. It works like a medicine bottle top (push down to turn). There’s also a large plastic orange retainer pin that slides through the rack and seat once both are in place to prevent the seat from sliding back. That pin is held in place with a cotter pin. You can see the ring of that pin just peaking out under the seat in the product picture.

    – Last, there’s an option head rest/extension that you can screw onto the back of the seat. It provides an extra ~8 in of head rest above the seat back and uses three screws to hold it in place. These are included.

This took about 15 min to assemble and I really like that I can remove the seat if I want to ride around with just the rack on the bike. To do that you don’t need tools. Just unscrew the safety cap and pull out the large plastic pin under the seat. The seat then slides off the rack.

Once we assembled the seat, the three of us took a ride to the local park. Our daughter promptly had a mini-meltdown within 10 min at the park, but once she calmed down the rides there and back were great, she loved it! Toddler Tyrant strikes again!

I am very pleased and happy I spent a little more for this product. Our child fits in the seat very well and it is a strong product! Takes a little time to put together and instructions were some what unclear at times

I installed this on a full suspension mtn bike (front and back shocks) Giant Trance 2. I had to lock my rear suspension to allow it to work with this rear seat. Been on several rides with it and it’s worked great with no issues. Tight clearance with the back tire and support bars but hasn’t rubbed or been a problem yet.

My daughter is almost 2, and she LOVES riding in it. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit on my Schwann cruiser with a built in rear rack because the built in rack is too wide. It will ONLY fit onto the slimmer rack it comes with. Other than that, I think it’s a great buy! It is super safe so far and she seemed comfortable enough on our long morning bike ride. She smiled and clapped the entire ride, even while wearing her helmet. I’m most likely going to give my bike to my sister so that I can ride her with me from now on. But do not purchase expecting it to fit on a built in rear-rack, which is kind of weird to me given it’s a Schwann brand product, you’d think they’d make it compatible with their own bikes.

i’d give it 4.5 stars but that’s ok.

the seat is a decent design. nice quality. velcro was placed haphazardly on the underside of the seat so it doesn’t line up very well with the mating sides on the seat itself, but it still sticks. no biggie.

i am riding a three speed Jamis Earth Cruiser with full fenders, a giant Cloud 9 seat and extended seat post. i have put a massive amount of miles on this bike over the past decade or so.

the brackets fit fine but it took a bit of finagling to get it all to mount evenly, etc. i am not sure how well this would fit on a smaller bike with fenders and a lower seat height. i’m a giant dude with a giant bike and imo this bracket system barely fits. i had to remove my rear seat post-mounted reflector to make room. i’m pretty handy and this was not the easiest installation to get it right and even. could be the bike and all the stuff in the way, i know.

fitment of the plastic seat to the bracket base is not tight. it’s SAFE, but not tight. that means….A TON OF RATTLES WHEN NO CHILD IS IN THE SEAT. and i ride this bike a lot w/o my son so that is just unacceptable for me. so, i figured out the rattling points. they are:

    – the seat bottom on the brackets

    – the blue foot cups in footwells of the seat

    – the front of the bracket "tray" captured in the part of the seat with the red knob

my solutions for all of this were to place zip ties, one on each side, cinched down around part of the bracket and the seat underneath the gray cushion. that pulls the seat tight to the bracket. then i flush cut the zip tie ends after cinching hard, so they don’t cut the cushion when you replace it. i had to remove the red cross key thing to do this but i was able to re-attach it once i had the zip ties tightened.

i placed 1/4" foam seal tape on strategic points on the blue foot cups where they rub/tap the gray footwells of the seat. you’ll see. i put the adhesive side on the blue foot cups so the foam will always be in contact with the gray plastic no matter where the blue cup is mounted.

i placed folded paper towel pieces along the black bar that is captured by the front piece with the red knob then closed it and tightened the red knob.

also, when baby isn’t in there, i make it so the harness straps are running outside of the cross bar/grab bar and tighten them.

i ride on some rough roads and have Vermin knobby tires and without baby, all of these mods have calmed down like 95% of the rattles. it’s very tolerable now.

my son likes the seat. there is no way i can get the spoke protector mounted but that is fine because his feet can’t get to the spokes because of the seat height and fender.

Overall it’s a decent product, however what a nightmare to install! My wife is on the shorter side (5’2”) and her seat can only go so far up to ride safely. In addition to the painful installation, the screws for the headrest were missing. Called customer service and at first they said they couldn’t send me parts and I should return the seat. Then they said they could send the parts but they just didn’t have them in stock so if I purchased the screws myself they’d reimburse me. The size of the headrest screws (if anyone else needs them) is 17mm x 3mm. The product feels secure overall and I do feel like my son will be safe in it I just didn’t expect such a difficult installation and missing parts that I now have to go purchase myself. I sure hope he enjoys the ride after all this hard work!

First of all I got this as ”like new” from the Amazon warehouse and it was great and saved me a little bit of money. I am a casual bike rider but we use this seat at least once a week for short trips.

PROS: Good for casual riders, inexpensive, adjustable foot height is super cool. 1 year-old loves riding in it to the park or grandma’s. Baby grabs onto the little bar and was only nervous on the first ride.

CONS: It took my pretty handy husband over an hour to install because it tilts forward if your bike frame is too small or seat is too low. Also after a day, it started rubbing on the brake cord and I didn’t have rear brakes for a minute. We fixed it and haven’t had an issue since.

OVERALL: Once it was installed it works great for quick trips. Just probably a better product for medium or large bikes.
